AVID Bay Region IV Workshops/Events


AVID Bay Region IV Workshops are designed to provide ongoing staff development for AVID teachers/coordinators and site team members. The workshops are open to sites implementing the AVID elective. If you want more information about how schools are implementing the program, please call the Region IV AVID Center at (925) 942-5349 or (925) 942-5395 for more information.


Registration Instructions:
To enroll in one of the following AVID events, please click the "register" button next to the event you're interested in, then click on "AVID" on the right and complete the registration process. If you have any problems, please send an e-mail to moka@cccoe.k12.ca.us. Deadline to register is one week prior to the event.

AVID Road Trip Nation Training

For Teachers of 9th and 10th grade students

The goals of the Roadtrip Nation Experience are:

  • Increase relevance in students’ educational experience by connecting them to the real world via RTN experiential-learning programs and engaging multi-media content.
  • Broaden student exposure to pathways and opportunities that relate to their individual passions and interests.
  • Develop students’ 21st century skills by leveraging RTN programs and resources that guide them in researching, project management, communication, teamwork, leadership, as well as technology and written communication skills.

What Region 4 AVID teachers and students had to say about the experience:

No charge for this event.

Region 4 will reimburse for one substitute up to $150 per site.

AVID College Readiness Training

Who Should Participate?

  • AVID Junior and Senior teachers who have not attended Summer Institute College Readiness or Regional College Readiness Training.

Workshop Highlights:

  • Participants will receive materials including course outline and lesson plans
  • Participants will receive the AVID College Readiness Teacher Guide
  • Participants will receive books to use with Junior or Senior classes

Workshop Specifics:

  • Continental breakfast and lunch will be provided.
  • To reserve a vegetarian lunch please call 925-942-5395 at least one week before the workshop.
  • Region 4 will reimburse for substitute costs up to $150 each for pre-registered participants only.

Deadline to register is September 30, 2010.

AVID Regional Workshop

Please choose one of the following strands to attend:

Strand 1: Critical Reading

  • Reading-to-Learn strategies for middle and high levels (e.g., Planning for Reading, Pre-reading, Academic Vocabulary, marking the text, summarizing and much more).
  • Participants receive a copy of AVID Critical Reading: Deep Strategies for Expository Texts teacher guide.

Strand 2: Support Structures for English Language Learners

  • Supporting Heritage and Native Speakers using AVID strategies
  • What an Academic Program looks like for EL Students
  • Participants receive a copy of AVID Write Path English Language Learners teacher guide

Who Should Participate?

  • AVID Coordinators & Elective Teachers
  • AVID Site Team Members
  • AVID Administrators

No charge for AVID sites to attend

Continental Breakfast & lunch provided

For registered participants, Region 4 will reimburse for 2 substitutes up to $150 each from each AVID site.

One semester credit is available. Sign-up at the training.
